Description

1891-CC Double Eagle, MS61
Rarely Seen Mint State Example

1891-CC $20 MS61 NGC. Variety 1-A. With a mintage of only 5,000 coins, the 1891-CC is among the most sought-after Type Three Carson City double eagles. Circulated examples are occasionally available, many repatriated from overseas holdings, but Mint State coins are scarce. Examples grading finer than the present are rare. Luster is satiny and bright yellow-gold in color, showing a pleasing cartwheel effect and good eye appeal. Light, scattered marks limit the grade but pose limited distraction. An exceptional, high-end example of this important Carson City issue. Census: 14 in 61, 11 finer (2/20).
