Description

Mint State 1892 Philadelphia Twenty
Last of a Low-Mintage Span

1892 $20 MS61 NGC. The 1892 Philadelphia double eagle issue, at a skimpy 4,430 business strikes, concludes a string of low-mintage productions from that mint that lasted for more than a decade, beginning in 1880. The lowest mintage for the span came in 1882, with only 571 pieces coined. This Mint State 1892 boasts a sharp strike over yellow-orange surfaces that display subdued mint luster with a bit of flash in the fields. Light scattered abrasions account for the grade, along with a nick at the top of Liberty's hair and a scrape at right obverse rim. Census: 12 in 61, 18 finer, excluding a handful of Prooflike and even Deep Prooflike coins (5/11).(Registry values: N4719)
