1893-CC Double Eagle, MS62
Variety 2-A
1893-CC $20 MS62 NGC. CAC. Variety 2-A. Two die pairs are
known for the 1893-CC double eagles from two obverse dies and one
reverse die. This obverse has a short die line extending to the
left from Liberty's neck, a little below center. 1893 was the final
year of coinage operations at the Carson City Mint, with production
suspended on June 1. The facility continued operating as an assay
office until business ceased in 1900. This splendid Mint State
piece exhibits frosty yellow luster and lovely surfaces that a free
of distracting marks. NGC has only certified 21 finer examples.
