Description

Lustrous MS63 1893-CC Twenty With Original Surfaces

1893-CC $20 MS63 PCGS. This Select quality double eagle is from the Carson City Mint's final issue. The shimmering satiny luster and yellow-gold toning, with peach highlights, is highly attractive. Most numismatists would rate this as a well struck piece, despite a hint of weakness on some the design's highest points. A faint smudge mark on the back of and just behind Liberty's hair bun is probably from a speck of grease on the die at the time of striking. "Choice examples are very scarce, and only one coin has been certified at the MS-64 level," according to Garrett and Guth's Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins. Population: 18 in 63, 0 finer (5/08).
