Description
Extremely Rare Gem 1895-S Twenty
1895-S $20 MS65 NGC. The Type Three Liberty double eagles, especially those coined in the last two decades of the 19th century, abound with condition rarities that can be found without any difficulty in circulated grades, remaining available through the MS63 level in most cases. Many of these dates are quite rare in MS64 quality and virtually unknown any finer. This is just such a date, with 14 examples certified as MS65 and just one finer piece by NGC and PCGS combined. This frosty Mint State Gem has sharp details, brilliant luster, and gorgeous honey-gold frost that is accented by hints of pale olive toning at the borders. A few insignificant marks can be seen on each side, preventing a Premium Gem assessment. Census: 8 in 65, 1 finer (6/07).(Registry values: N4719)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26CE, PCGS# 9028, Greysheet# 9956)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
