1899-S Twenty Dollar Liberty, MS64
Rare Prooflike-Designated Example
1899-S $20 MS64 Prooflike NGC. Large numbers of 1899-S
double eagles are known in grades from XF to MS63. Higher-grade
coins are scarce, especially those with a Prooflike finish. Bright
peach-gold surfaces display a splash of reddish patina in the
upper-central reverse. The design elements are sharply struck, and
a few minor marks prevent full Gem status. Census: 3 in 64
Prooflike, 0 finer (2/19).Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2008), lot 4915, where it brought $4,603.45.
