Description

Type Three 1901 Gem Double Eagle

1901 $20 MS65 NGC. Because of the discovery of a large hoard a few years ago, the 1901 is one of the more obtainable Type Three double eagles from the Philadelphia Mint in high Mint State grades. The lustrous peach-gold surfaces of this Gem display often seen mint-made toning spots and well struck devices. Light marks are undistracting. The first 1 in the date is repunched at the base.
