Description
Gem 1901 Liberty Head Double Eagle
1901 $20 MS65 PCGS. CAC. The 1901 Liberty Head double eagle boasts a small mintage of 111,400 pieces, but many were preserved in European banks. The issue is available in all grades up to MS65, but coins above the Gem level are extremely rare. Only three examples have been certified in grades above MS65 by NGC and PCGS combined (10/09). The outstanding feature of the present coin is its impressive strike. Fine detail is present on all design elements, especially Liberty's hair. The surfaces are frosty and lustrous, only a few minor marks on the cheek prevent an even higher grade. Housed in a green label PCGS holder.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26CS, PCGS# 9039, GSID# 9836)
