Description
Gem 1901 Liberty Head Double Eagle
Exemplary Strike
1901 $20 MS65 PCGS. CAC. The 1901 Liberty Head double eagle
boasts a low mintage of 111,430 pieces, but its presence in a hoard
that surfaced in the 1990s makes the date surprisingly easy to
locate in Mint State grades. The population drops off precipitously
above the Gem level, and only three coins have been certified in
higher numeric grades by PCGS and NGC combined (8/10). The present
coin is a delightful Gem specimen, with a sharp strike and vibrant
mint luster. The surfaces are a pleasing yellow-gold color, with
highlights of olive and rose. Housed in a green label
holder.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26CS, PCGS# 9039, GSID# 9836)
