Description
Low Mintage 1901 Gem Double Eagle
1901 $20 MS65 PCGS. Though the 1901 Philadelphia Mint twenty has a rather low mintage (111,430 circulation strikes) for its era, many were preserved in European vaults, resulting in numerous extant specimens through the MS64 level of preservation. Localized splashes of soft sky-blue and lilac blush the apricot-gold surfaces of this Gem, and an exacting strike sharpens the design elements. Some grade-consistent marks on the lustrous surfaces are undisturbing. This is the variety with the first 1 in the date repunched. From The E.J.
