Description
1902 Double Eagle, MS64
Near the Condition Census
1902 $20 MS64 NGC. Ex: Eagle Collection. The 1902 double
eagle's trivial mintage of 31,140 coins ensures its popularity with
collectors, and it also contributes to the date's profound rarity
at the MS64 grade level or finer. NGC and PCGS combined report 19
coins in MS64 (with four of those Plus designated), and four finer
(12/25). But in the last three decades, we have handled MS64 coins
on only 11 prior occasions, with one appearance of a finer coin.
Thus, the current MS64 example is a rare and important opportunity
for the grade-conscious collector.A sharp strike and frosty peach-yellow luster adorns this piece. Scattered small marks mostly visit the obverse and are not bothersome. The eye appeal is certainly suitable for expectations. NGC Census: 7 in 64 (1 in 64+), 1 finer (12/25).(Registry values: N4719)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26CU, PCGS# 9041, Greysheet# 9837)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
