Description
1902-S Double Eagle, MS64
High-End Example, Challenging Date
1902-S $20 MS64 PCGS. CAC. With only 31,140 double eagles
struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1902, examples of which are
extremely rare in MS64, most collectors must instead turn to the
1902-S. That puts tremendous date pressure on a relatively small
number of high-grade survivors like the present offering. Clean for
a large gold coin in this grade with pinpoint detail and little
struck-in grease above the eagle's left (facing) wing. Orange-gold
surfaces glisten with frosty mint luster. PCGS reports six finer
submissions. CAC: 6 in 64, 1 finer (11/17).From The Gator Man Collection. (Registry values: N4719)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26CV, PCGS# 9042, Greysheet# 9963)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
