Description
Glorious Gem 1904 Twenty Dollar
1904 $20 MS65 NGC. The numerous Gem 1904 double eagles from this consignor give us the privilege of examining the remarkable strike of these coins as a group. Note the full centrils on every star around the periphery, the incredible wealth of detail in Liberty's hair and on the coronet, the crispness of the initials of James B. Longacre (Mint chief engraver who served from 1844-1869). On the reverse note the articulation in the glory of rays, the eagle's feathers, and the separation of all the horizontal shield lines. This is a glorious Gem, with excellent luster and orange-gold patina. From The E.J. Mutton Collection of U.S. Gold.(Registry values: N2998)
