Description
1904 Double Eagle, Lustrous Gem
1904 $20 MS65 NGC. It is fortunate that the large production of 1904 double eagles occurred a few decades before the great Gold Recall of 1933, else these splendid Gems might have gone the way of the 1933 double eagles and eagles. As it stands, many 1904s were exported before World War I, only to become numismatic treasures later on. This MS65 piece radiates appeal on both sides. The lustrous, mellow peach-gold surfaces appear free of all but a couple of small obverse abrasions well away from the focal points. From The E.J. Mutton Collection of U.S. Gold.(Registry values: N2998)
