1904 Type Three Twenty, MS65 Prooflike
Only Two Finer Prooflike Specimens
1904 $20 MS65 Prooflike NGC. The 1904 is known as the most
plentiful issue of the Liberty double eagles from an extremely high
mintage of more than 6 million pieces. However, prooflike examples
of this issue are rare in context of the mintage, as NGC has
certified more than 250,000 pieces with less than 1,000 Prooflike
designations. And while NGC shows only two numerically finer
Prooflike pieces, PCGS does not report any finer (9/25). This
example has a bold strike with satiny devices and fully mirrored
fields, showing minimal abrasions on the flashing wheat-gold
surfaces. An exceptional example for an advanced type set.Ex: Chicago Signature (Heritage, 8/2013), lot 5280.
