First Year of Denver Mint Coinage

1906-D $20 MS65 PCGS. Coinage began at the new Denver Mint in 1906 (although it had served for decades as an assay office), and the 1906-D and 1907-D are the only two D-mint Liberty Head double eagles. Despite the April Great Earthquake and Fire in San Francisco, that longer-established mint managed to produce more than 2 million double eagles in 1906, compared to only 620,250 pieces from Denver. This Gem may prove overwhelmingly appealing to our Colorado clientele (and others). The mint luster is satiny, the strike is full, and there are no obvious or singular abrasions. Even, orange-gold patina liberally coats each side. Population: 4 in 65, 1 finer (8/09).(Registry values: N4719)
