Description
1907-S Twenty Dollar, MS65
A Condition Rarity at This Grade
Rarest of the 1907 Issues as a Gem
1907-S $20 MS65 PCGS. This last-year Liberty double eagle
from the San Francisco Mint is far finer than most of its peers. A
liberal mintage exceeding 2.1 million coins makes the 1907-S
readily available in lesser grades, although most show heavily
abraded surfaces or light circulation. The average certified
survivor grades a tad less than MS62. This Gem Uncirculated example
represents the upper limit for a 1907-S. The obverse fields are
remarkably smooth and nearly abrasion-free -- only a sole
mentionable contact that shows resides on Liberty's midcheek. Minor
strike weakness shows on few peripheral obverse stars, Liberty's
face curls, and the upper hair strands. The reverse is noticeably
sharper and beautifully preserved, clearly better-struck overall.
