Description
1892-CC Liberty Twenty, MS61
Branch Mint Semikey Date
1892-CC $20 MS61 NGC. Winter 1-A. The last few issues of
Carson City Mint double eagles were heavily exported at the bidding
of the Treasury. As Comstock Lode yields declined, so did
production, and higher percentages were exported or went directly
into circulation. While hoard discoveries have supplemented Mint
State numbers in more recent years, the issue is conditionally
scarce with NGC showing only 159 Mint State pieces with the sole
highest example at just MS64 (6/25). This boldly struck Branch Mint
example features khaki-gold surfaces accented with faint tinges of
orange and lavender. Devices show rich, frosty luster on highly
reflective fields that deliver luminous eye appeal. A few tiny die
grease marks attest to its original state, and typical myriad
bagmarks define the grade.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26C6, PCGS# 9020, Greysheet# 9951)
Weight: 33.44 grams
