Description
1901 Liberty Twenty, MS65
Finer Pieces Are Rare
1901 $20 MS65 PCGS. Despite a modest mintage of 111,430
pieces in 1901, the issue has become widely popular as a type coin
based upon plentiful supplies through MS65. A large hoard in the
1990s surfaced and increased high-end totals, but Premium Gems
remain quite challenging. This well-preserved double eagle is
sharply struck on honey-gold surfaces with luminous undertones of
lilac and light-orange. Eye appeal is strong with rich, frosty
luster delivering a colorful cartwheel effect. Faint luster grazes
on Liberty's cheek and a few minor marks account for the grade.
PCGS reports only four numerically finer examples, along with 12
pieces in MS65+ (6/25).(Registry values: N2998)From The Mark George Collection.
