    1855-O Double Eagle, AU53
    Better New Orleans Issue

1855-O $20 AU53 PCGS. All New Orleans double eagles are better dates, but the 1855-O is significantly rarer than the earlier O-mint issues that constitute most auction appearances. The 1855-O has a mintage of only 8,000 pieces, and PCGS has certified just 54 pieces in all grades, less than one-tenth the PCGS Population for the 1851-O. The present wheat-gold example shows light wear on the curls and wingtips, but luster surrounds design elements, and abrasions are no more than anticipated for the AU53 level. An important offering for the Southern gold specialist. Population: 10 in 53, 7 finer (1/20).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 268W, PCGS# 8915)

    Weight: 33.44 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
