Description

1872 Double Eagle, MS60
Relatively Few Marks

1872 $20 MS60 NGC. The 1872 is much scarcer in Mint State than its high-mintage 1873 Open 3 successor. The present sharply struck Type Two twenty shows a horizontal line on the cheek and a tick on the obverse rim at 12 o'clock, but is otherwise pleasing for the designated grade. Blushes of orange-gold and sea-green toning enrich the borders. Encased in a former-generation holder. Census: 26 in 60 (1 in 60 ), 57 finer (7/18).(Registry values: N2998)
