Description

1873-CC Double Eagle, AU53
Appealing CAC-Approved Example

1873-CC $20 AU53 PCGS. CAC. Variety 2-A. The misplaced date digit in the denticles below 37 and the mintmark centered over the right upright of the N in TWENTY confirm the die marriage for this elusive Carson City double eagle. It is one of just 22,410 coins struck and perhaps 375 to 500 survivors, according to Rusty Goe. High-grade representatives are particularly challenging to obtain, as are those with natural surfaces like the AU53 twenty offered here. Orange-gold surfaces showcase traces of mint frost around the design elements, which are minimally worn, if typically struck. Abrasions are scant. Lovely visual appeal. CAC: 6 in 53, 18 finer (12/21).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26AJ, PCGS# 8968, Greysheet# 9917)
