Description
Lustrous 1838 Eagle in AU
1838 $10 AU 50 Scratched. In 1838, Christian Gobrecht's Coronet design debuted, beginning a series that, with minor modifications, spanned eight decades and reached from the beginnings of the railroad era well into the era of modern flight. This example is lustrous, with greenish-gold surfaces that are moderately abraded. A couple of old, short scratches are visible on the obverse, but the piece retains much originality and eye appeal. Certain to garner spirited bidding interest from gold specialists.Ex: Harold A. Blauvelt Collection Sale (Bowers & Ruddy, 2/77), lot 741.
