Description

1839/8 $10 Type of 1838 XF 40 Cleaned. This coin was originally offered as lot 5692 in our Philadelphia 2000 Signature Sale, where it was cataloged as: "The honey-gold surfaces display a glossy sheen that does not speak well for this coin's originality. Both sides are minimally abraded for the grade with crisp overall definition. This issue is one of only two Liberty eagles to use Christian Gobrecht's initial motif. A relatively affordable survivor of this conditionally rare subtype."
