Description

Near-Mint 1839 Large Letters Ten Dollar
    The Prized Type of 1838

1839 $10 Type of 1838, Large Letters AU58 NGC. The Type of 1838 (also known as "Head of 1838") is an important early subtype of the Liberty Coronet ten, distinguished by a bold swirl of hair that curls from the beads in back of Liberty's hair all the way to her temple. High-end circulated examples enjoy constant demand, as Mint State coins are conditionally rare, and this survivor is just a touch of rub away from full Uncirculated status. Small rim nicks appear on each side, and the most visible inner abrasion appears above the 9 in the date. Such flaws notwithstanding, this is a highly appealing coin for the type. NGC has graded just 10 Mint State survivors (9/10).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 54XF, PCGS# 8576)
