Description
1840 $10 AU55 NGC. Because of the earliness of the date, the 1840 was not set aside in high grades. Few Uncirculated pieces are known, and the seldom-offered Almost Uncirculated coins are about as fine as the collector is likely to encounter. Noticeable amounts of mint luster surround the peripheries on each side of this piece. Both sides are peppered with numerous small abrasions, but the only ones of significance are in the field above the arrowheads on the reverse. Bright yellow-gold color and well struck overall. Census: 30 in 55, 27 finer (7/19).Ex: Beverly Hills Signature (Heritage, 11/2011), lot 4354, which realized $2,760.(Registry values: N1793)
