Description

    1841-O Eagle, Minimally Marked XF45
    A Low-Mintage, Popular Issue

1841-O $10 XF45 NGC. Variety 1. The only known variety. The 1841-O ten dollar, from a meager mintage of 2,500 pieces, was the first date of this denomination struck in New Orleans. This first-year status, along with its extremely low mintage, overall rarity, and lack of high-grade survivors make this a highly popular date. The PCGS website estimates only 50 to 75 coins are known in all grades. NGC and PCGS have seen a mere 100 specimens, the finest being two AU58s.

The orange-gold surfaces of this Choice XF offering are imbued with hints of red. The devices are relatively well-defined despite high-point friction, including most of Liberty's hair and the star centrils. Light distributed marks are fewer and much less severe than typically encountered on this date, most examples are excessively abraded with deep, distracting marks. A nice, lightly circulated example. Census: 15 in 45, 20 finer (3/14).
