Description

1841-O Ten Dollar, XF45
Key New Orleans Issue

1841-O $10 XF45 PCGS. Winter 1. The 2,500-piece mintage made the 1841-O eagle rare from the day it was struck. PCGS suggests only 50 to 75 examples survive in all grades combined -- none of which are in Mint State. The 1841-O was the first of its denomination struck by the New Orleans Mint and the entire production was struck from a single die pair. Most surviving examples grade from VF to XF, with Choice XF coins such as the present example being the best available grade for most collectors. This lightly abraded XF45 piece, with partially prooflike surfaces dotted by tiny marks. Medium green-gold color hosts orange-gold accents and glimpses of original mint luster. The strike is sharp and eye appeal is significantly finer than expected for the assigned grade. PCGS Population: 14 in 45, 18 finer (11/25).(Registry values: N2998)
