Description

Borderline Unc. 1842 Large Date Eagle

1842 $10 Large Date AU58 NGC. A mildly prooflike example that has little if any loss of luster on the devices, but the fields have numerous minor abrasions. There is a small amount of verdigris on the R and above the C in AMERICA. A trio of heavy die cracks (as struck) begin at 2, 7, and 10 o'clock, and intersect within the eagle to the left of the shield. While not as rare as its Small Date counterpart, less than 63,000 pieces were struck, and survivors above XF are quite scarce. Population: 8 in 58, 2 finer (11/03). (#8584) (Registry values: P6)
