Description

1842 Ten Dollar, AU53
Scarce Small Date Variety

1842 $10 Small Date AU53 NGC. The 1842 ten dollar has a mintage of 81,507 pieces, unevenly divided between the Large Date and Small Date varieties. The Guide Book states a mintage of 62,884 pieces for the former and 18,623 pieces for the latter. The Small Date is considered scarcer, and both varieties are great rarities in Mint State. The present caramel-gold representative displays substantial luster within the plumage, curls, and legends. Small marks are distributed, but only a vertical line near the back of Liberty's neck merits mention.(Registry values: N1793)
