    High Wide O Variety

    1842-O $10 AU53 PCGS. Variety 3. A well struck yellow-gold example. The obverse is minimally abraded, and the reverse displays a few field lines below OF. It is little known that the 1842-O, despite its low mintage of 27,400 pieces, has two mintmark sizes and three die marriages. Variety 1 has an Narrow O. Variety 2 is the low Wide O, and Variety 3 is the high Wide O. Variety 2 is the most available, and Variety 3 is the rarest, although all three marriages can be acquired with patience.(Registry values: N2998)
