Scarce 1843 Ten Dollar, AU55

1843 $10 AU55 NGC. Ex: S.S. Republic. The 1843 Philadelphia mintage is less than half of its New Orleans counterpart, yet both issues trade at similar values due to specialized demand from Southern gold collectors. This pale gold example has ample luster across the eagle, borders, and hair. The scattered abrasions are characteristic of the No Motto type. The S.S. Republic sank in 1865, and carried a large and diverse selection of Federal gold. Census: 35 in 55, 26 finer (8/10).(Registry values: N2998)
