Scarce 1843 Eagle, AU 55, Triple Punched Date
1843 AU 55 NGC. Triple Date, Breen-6861. A rare variety, with the aid of a strong glass one can make out triple punching on the 4. One of the finest known of this variety, the best known to Breen was an AU. The surfaces show numerous tiny marks, but none of these are of individual significance. Bright semi-prooflike fields, there is a bit of reddish peripheral color. Scarce so fine.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 262P, PCGS# 8588, GSID# 9363)
