Description

Problem-Free 1843-O Ten-Dollar

1843-O AU 53 PCGS. Among O-mint tens, the 1843-O is generally considered a common date. However, in AU condition it is considered an R.7 issue with an estimated 11-13 pieces believed to exist in this grade range. This is one of the few coins in the Warren Miller Collection that falls outside the condition census for the issue--not by much, but the fifth finest known is believed to be an AU 58, and one coin (the third finest) has not been seen since 1965. Sharply struck on the stars, as usual, the central details are just a bit softly struck. The fields show traces of prooflikeness still, giving an added brightness the surfaces without amplifying the importance of the few abrasions that are present.
