Description

1844 Liberty Head Eagle, AU58
Only Two Finer

1844 $10 AU58 NGC. No doubt collectors were disappointed when not a single 1844 eagle was discovered in the remains of the S.S. Republic, as this is the rarest issue of the decade. NGC has graded only 5 examples at the AU58 level, with 2 finer, while PCGS has yet to certify an example at AU58 or higher (12/13). This near-Mint specimen displays lovely medium yellow-gold color and remaining areas of luster. Light wear appears on the high points of this piece exhibiting a sharp strike.
