Description

1844 Ten-Dollar

1844 XF 40 PCGS. The 1844 ten is an exceptionally scarce coin with a low mintage of only 6,361 pieces, a mintage that, in this case, is a good indicator of how rare this date really is. Part of the reason this issue is so rare is because of the hard times the country experienced from 1838-44, years of unemployment and starvation. The 1844 is considered "prohibitively rare" in XF by Breen. This piece is well defined for the grade and shows innumerable small bagging marks, the only one of note being a hit in the upper reverse field below the first A in AMERICA.
