Elusive At This Level or Finer
1844-O $10 AU58 PCGS. Recut Mintmark, Variety 5. Mint luster
radiates on both sides of this yellow-gold, lightly abraded eagle,
while a sharp strike remains on both sides. The large mintage of
118,700 pieces translates to availability only through VF and XF
grades. In About Uncirculated condition, the issue is notably
elusive and it is rare in Mint State. Five die pairs are known for
the issue. The present variety shows recutting on the inner left
curve of the mintmark and faint die cracks that are visible above
stars 3 through 7. Population: 10 in 58, 4 finer (5/16).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 262T, PCGS# 8591, Greysheet# 9432)
