Uncirculated 1844-O No Motto Eagle
1844-O $10 MS60 NGC. CAC. The 1844-O eagle is one of the more available No Motto dates from the New Orleans Mint, but it is still a scarce coin in high grade. Recently, 32 examples of this date were recovered from the wreck of the S.S. Republic, but they were primarily in AU grades. Garrett and Guth report Mint State coins are exceedingly rare. The present coin features a better than average strike, with fine detail in the hair and feathers. Attractive yellow-gold color blends with honey toning on the surfaces. Scattered handling marks are consistent with the grade. Census: 5 in 60, 8 finer (2/09).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 262T, PCGS# 8591, Greysheet# 9432)
