Description

Condition Rarity 1844-O Ten Dollar, MS60

1844-O $10 MS60 NGC. Writing of the 1844-O ten dollar in his New Orleans Mint Gold Coins reference, Douglas Winter says this date can be found in Very Fine and Extremely Fine grades. It is rare in About Uncirculated, and exceedingly rare in Mint State.
A well executed strike leaves strong definition on the design features of this MS60 specimen, with the sole exception of weakness in the hair above Liberty's ear. Yellow-gold patina reveals hints of greenish-tan. Light grazes and contacts scattered over both sides result in occasional breaks in the luster. The mintmark is recut slightly at its left and upper inner border. Overall, a nice looking piece for the grade designation. Census: 5 in 60, 3 finer (7/08).252(Registry values: N4719)
