Description

Underrated 1846 Eagle, AU53
Few Coins Survive This Fine

1846 $10 AU53 PCGS. With a mintage of 20,095 pieces and an estimated survivorship of probably fewer than 180 or 190 coins, the 1846 Philadelphia Mint eagle is terribly underrated, as are many of its contemporaries. This orange-gold example saw a bit of circulation and shows faint evidence thereof in the form of high-point blending and light abrasions. A single depression below star 5 merits note. Population: 8 in 53, 12 finer (12/18).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 262W, PCGS# 8594, Greysheet# 9366)

Weight: 16.72 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
