Description

1846 Liberty Ten, AU58
Underrated and Underappreciated

1846 $10 AU58 PCGS. While the mintage of 20,095 coins suggests that the 1846 is only a moderately scarce Liberty eagle issue, the population data suggests that it is quite rare, with an average certified grade of just over XF45. PCGS has only certified 78 examples in all grades, and only one of those is finer than the present piece, with only one other AU58 example, and only four that grade AU55 (10/14). David Akers wrote: "In my opinion, few other U.S. coins are as underrated and underappreciated for their true rarity as this one." A few trivial marks appear on each side of this attractive yellow-gold eagle. The strike is adequate and the fields retain nearly full prooflike reflectivity.(Registry values: N4719)
