Description

1847-O Eagle, MS63
Rare in Mint State

1847-O $10 MS63 PCGS. Variety 2. The 1847-O eagle had a moderately high mintage of 571,500 pieces, but it circulated heavily and Mint State survivors are decidedly rare in any grade. The S.S. Republic shipwreck yielded a dozen representatives, but only two were in Mint State, and neither graded finer than MS61. This coin is one of just two MS63 examples certified by PCGS, with only three finer; NGC has only seen one in this grade, with none finer (6/14). Soft, lemon-gold luster illuminates remarkably smooth surfaces, giving this piece ample visual appeal. The typical softness is seen on the central hair curls, though it is minor.(Registry values: N7079)
