Description

1848 Eagle, MS60
Scarce in Mint State

1848 $10 MS60 NGC. Shield Ring Variety. A high-mintage No Motto type coin, yet Uncirculated examples are decidedly scarce. The coin displays nice frosty luster over sun-gold surfaces, which are sharply struck on both sides including the distinctive die anomaly atop the second vertical stripe resembling a circular ring. The Shield Ring die defect is more commonly seen on New Orleans issues of the era. As one might expect for the assigned grade, frequent bagmarks and light abrasions visit the pleasing surfaces. Census: 7 in 60, 19 finer (4/15).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2633, PCGS# 8599, Greysheet# 9368)
