Description

1849 Ten Dollar Liberty, MS63
Sole CAC Coin in This Grade

1849 $10 MS63 PCGS. CAC. The 1849 is among the more plentiful No Motto Liberty eagles, although most coins are in circulated grades. Mint State pieces are elusive, and those in MS63 are rare with barely a handful known finer. Moreover, high-end pieces within these grades are major rarities. The current MS63 coin, for example, is the only CAC-endorsed 1849 ten in this grade, and just two finer coins are CAC approved (11/25). Thus, this coin is among the best examples of the date available for the quality-conscious collector.

The coin displays softly frosted peach-gold mint luster with just a few small marks in the obverse fields to limit the grade. The lower obverse stars and portions of the eagle show strike softness, as is typical, but the overall definition is pleasing for the issue. PCGS Population: 9 in 63 (1 in 63+), 3 finer (11/25). CAC: 1 in 63, 2 finer (11/25).(Registry values: N4719)
