1850 Eagle, AU55
Elusive Small Date Coronet
1850 $10 Small Date AU55 NGC. The present coin is sharply
struck at the centers although most of the stars lack their radial
lines. Examination finds moderate abrasions on both sides, but
traces of luster survive in the protected areas. Identifiable by a
scratch on Liberty's jaw which slips by close to her ear. The Small
Date obverse is a bit scarcer than the Large Date, especially so in
high-end grades, and NGC reports only 29 numerically finer pieces
