    1850-O Coronet Eagle, AU55
    Remarkably Sharp and Vibrant

1850-O $10 AU55 PCGS. CAC. Variety 1. Centered date, as usual. The certification totals for the 1850-O No Motto eagle are probably inflated. The number of AU55 representatives, in particular, seems too high. In 2006, Winter suggested only 19 to 24 were extant across all AU grades. Perhaps that was conservative, but the 46 submissions in AU55 alone probably reflect resubmissions in the hopes of obtaining a higher grade. Both sides are incredibly sharp and remarkably vibrant. Small, largely unimportant marks appear over luminous yellow-gold surfaces. Certified in an old green label holder. Population: 14 in 55, 9 finer. CAC: 1 in 55, 6 finer (1/18).
