Description

Collectible, High Grade 1851-O Liberty Eagle

1851-O $10 AU58 NGC. This coin displays an average strike for an O-mint gold coin, which means that the central devices are generally sharp while those around the peripheries are a little softly detailed. Orange-gold color envelops partially lustrous surfaces that reveal hints of a modest semi-prooflike finish at certain angles. There is not a single noteworthy abrasion and, in fact, both sides appear remarkably well preserved for a Southern gold coin that saw actual circulation. While the 1851-O (263,000 pieces produced) is generally regarded as one of the more common Liberty Eagles from the New Orleans mint, survivors are typically offered in grades no finer than XF.(#8607) (Registry values: N1793)
