1853/'2' Ten Dollar, AU55
A Guide Book Variety
1853/'2' $10 AU55 NGC. This is a Guide Book variety
and has long been considered an overdate by many, including David
Akers (1980): "One variety of 1853 is an overdate, i.e., 1853/2."
However, NGC notes on their VarietyPlus webpage: "There is no
universal agreement that this is an overdate, but it remains of
interest to collectors." Both NGC and PCGS certify examples of this
variety with the 2 in quotations. This Choice AU example displays
sharp detail and little wear with hints of luster in the protected
areas. Pleasing straw-gold color characterizes each side.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# C82G, PCGS# 8611, GSID# 9443)
