Description

1853/'2' Eagle, AU58
FS-301, Popular Overdate

1853/2 $10 AU58 NGC. FS-301. The lower curve and point of an underdigit 2 appear within the 3 of the date. Previously unknown examples of the overdate variety are still occasionally discovered today, as the underdigit 2 is faint. A lovely, lightly circulated example, this near-Mint coin displays yellow-gold surfaces, with subtle hints of rose and green observed when turned in-hand. Scattered marks appear on both sides, including a few on Liberty's face that pose minimal distraction. NGC and PCGS combined have awarded the AU58 grade to only 26 examples, with only three coins achieving numerically finer grades from the two services (6/14).(Registry values: N2998)
