Description

1853/2 Ten Dollar, MS61
Rare in Mint State

1853/2 $10 MS61 NGC. FS-301. This Cherrypickers' variety, recognized by both NGC and PCGS, exhibits what appears to be the remnants of a 2 within the lower loop of the 3 in the date. This variety is scarce in all grades, but becomes a major condition rarity in Mint State. NGC lists only five Uncirculated examples, including three in this grade and one MS62 finer; the Mint State population at PCGS consists of a coin each in MS60 and MS61. Two of the NGC MS61 coins were recovered from the S.S. Republic. This piece is well-struck and displays satiny yellow-gold luster. Scattered abrasions limit the grade, but none are individually noteworthy.(Registry values: N7079)
